Thank you for that beautiful movie. Like many others,I came to it for Cantonese practice. I didn't expect something so moving: I had to pause several times as I couldn't read the subtitles through my tears. You and your father are wonderful actors. Good luck for your future works.
amazing. while watching, i could picture my own father and how he'd tell me the same things, and all the nuances that are unique to how cantonese families fight and talk. made me cry since i'm so far from my parents now, and it's so difficult to make them happy, while making myself happy at the same time
Hi Tylerknowsiknow, thank you for your encouragement, and good to know this shorts touches people who share the same view that family is important. To answer your question, yes, he is my real father, and I am so grateful that he answers when I request, both in acting in this movie and caring about my feelings :)
Grace Cheung Dear Grace. This was a beautiful film and made me cry at the end. Do you have a Facebook page or Instagram account I could support with likes and follows?
This is such a beautiful story and amazing talent from everyone. It feels like a really high budget film! I could really relate to the message, your acting and the choice of location was very realistic and down to earth. Your father is alao a great character!
Thank you it's great I'm trying to learn cantonese because I love Hong Kong, HK people, foods music movies... you guys acting so good , the story 👍. And thanks for subtitles (English and Chinese). Keep going like this.
Thank you for this beautiful film. The relationship you have with your father and the words he has said to you is something I have always wished to hear from my own father. Very moving and couldn't hold back the tears.
What can I say? This is perfectly executed. Loved Cinematography, loved the screenplay, acting was natural... my type of movie for sure. Will look for more of similar films and wish you all the best as well.
I’m here (like many others it seems) to help with my Cantonese learning. Beautiful short film, although I did find the old gentleman very hard to understand. I guess his accent must be quite different for some reason.
it is amazing to stumble across something so beautiful. This short film proves that giving time and understanding is far more important than material things. It didn't matter whether the subtitles were/are in Mandarin it's the emotion you need to convey. More please! Is is possible to have a PDF of the script for self learning?
Hello from San Francisco! This was a great short film you produced and acted in! 🙇🏻 🙇🏻 🙇🏻 Brought back some similar memories from my own childhood! 😢 Thanks so much Grace! I’m one of the few ABC’s who is 100% fluent in Cantonese! My mindset growing up was I didn’t want to be whitewashed! 💡 💡 💡
This was so well written. Even though the subs are a little off and awkward sometimes compared to the original script, I think you guys did a great job.
I am glad you like this video, and that it reminds you to think of your dad. I am sure you have a lot of touching moments with him. I will pass your compliment to him, I am sure he will be happy to know that.
I very much want to learn Cantonese. But it being not a written language makes it sort of difficult for me. I very much enjoyed watching this video. It helps. I like when I recognize phrases I have heard before.
@ZenZ, Jacky Cheung and FangirlOverHere, thank you very much for viewing and your comments, will keep working hard on writing good story and last but not least, the subs :P XD
Hi Grace. Thank you for the beautiful short film. I am trying to learn Cantonese to communicate with my father better and thus this story about a father and daughter touched my heart. Beautiful script and wonderful emotional acting. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you will create more shorts for us in the future! (Subbed!)
+tylerknowsiknow one question! Was that your real father? His acting is stellar too. And you have a beautiful connection on-screen, I'm sure it translates off-screen too. Family is so important and it's so nice to see father and daughter care for each other so much.
+beardan76 Thank you beardan76 for your message, from your profile pic I can see that you are a loving parent, I am so glad that my movie got appreciation by people who share the same feelings!
The subtitle is written Chinese, which is a little, or somewhat, different from Cantonese. Written Chinese can be found on documents and books easily. As far as I know, written Cantonese can be found on some modern channels that the producer wants to approach audiences or receivers in a friendly, creative and interesting way, for example social media and advertisements for young people. My two cents.
Cantonese was not originally a written language as far as I understand. When it is written using Chinese complex characters, it looks different from average complex characters. This is my understanding. I hope I have not misunderstood.
+Mariah Sitton Thanks for your message, I am sure everyone has his/her own preference. Cantonese is just a dialect but Mandarin is an official language which you can write and speak to one third people of the whole world. Therefore if you want to learn a Chinese language, I would recommend this. It's just Cantonese is my mother tongue, there are a lot of fun words that have been there with me since I was a little kid, it's kind of personal that I prefer Cantonese ;)
@ Grace Cheung Never belittle your mother tongue. Also it is a language and not a dialect (Spanish and French are not Latin dialects either). Chinese for the most of us is Cantonese not Mandarin. I was brought up on Hong Kong movies. Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and later I got to know Jet Li, Andy Lau etc. Cantonese is still an important language and it has a massive culture so it's worth learning. I also like Mandarin but Cantonese will always be "the Chinese" for me.
Cantonese is an original language, yes, and it is closer to the original Chinese language than Mandarin is. Cantonese has many tones within it and when the Manchurian people conquered China the language was a bit complicated. They reduced the many tones into only 4 and it became Mandarin as we know it today. So Cantonese is actually closer to the original Chinese language whereas Mandarin is a simplified modification.
Beautiful message...time flies..most important resource: use it wisely
Thank you for that beautiful movie. Like many others,I came to it for Cantonese practice.
I didn't expect something so moving: I had to pause several times as I couldn't read the subtitles through my tears.

I appreciate the media to preserve and celebrate the Cantonese language.

i think Cantonese sounds pretty but i am sticking to Mandarin

The UN classifies Cantonese as a language. I think it's very beautiful, and a lot of benefits come to learning it :)
